Even if you’re not a Dane you might have heard of the Little Mermaid. You might have heard a sappy sweet story with a happy ending. If that’s what you’ve heard, you don’t know the real story behind the Little Mermaid. She might look sweet and innocent keeping watch over Copenhagen Harbor, but believe me, she’s been through a lot. I know, I know. The whole horned helmet Viking thing isn’t historically accurate. Maybe it’s an unfair cultural caricature. It’s damn fun though, isn’t it? And I bet the Vikings were pretty cool to hang out with.
